Iowa Tech Chick volunteers from MedTouch, Pearson, and the University of Iowa recently hosted a booth at the SE Iowa STEM festival.
The STEM festival, organized by SE Iowa STEM Hub, was held at the Cedar Rapids Public Library from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. The event was free and open to the pubic.
The goal of the festival is to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics to life. The festival provides an afternoon full of hands-on STEM activities for young people.
Iowa Tech Chicks hosted two activities. At one table, kids completed a simple circuit activity to create a paper rocket with a working light bulb.
Other kids enjoyed the chance to play with Sphero’s, which are little round robots that can be controlled by tablets or smartphones.
Both activities were very popular, with a steady stream of kids checking out both activities throughout the event.
